Sports events can be a place of drama, excitement and emotion. Where you will find some great photography opportunities!

Sports events are ideal for photographers – with drama and excitement going on there are plenty of opportunities to find those photographs which are packed full of emotion, drama and the atmosphere.

But……sports photography isn’t easy! It has such fast-paced action, capturing that image can come and go in an instant, and with subjects moving around so quickly, it is sometimes difficult to keep up. This means that you have to really be on the ball, taking in your surroundings and looking for potential shots before they arise.

To help give yourself the best chance of getting some great photographs, you will need to be prepared ensuring you can stay ahead of the action and come away with some excellent photographs.

• LEARNING THE GAME!

If you are photographing a sport that you are unfamiliar with, take some time to learn at least the basic rules. You will then have a better chance of predicting where the players will move next. This helps you to stay ahead of the game therefore you can plan your shots a bit further ahead of the action.

• GET CLOSE TO THE ACTION

You can find that many of the best shots get right up close to the players, showing their determination, the sweat on their brow and the mud on their clothes.

Arriving early to the venue will give yourself a good spot close to the action. Use a long lens so that you can zoom right in on your subject.

Remember….before the event even starts, take some test shots of people such as officials or staff, to help you get an idea of how your shots will turn out.

• CAPTURE THE ACTION

Timing an individual shot is next to impossible when you have such fast-moving action, so shoot in bursts. Start shooting just before the anticipated ‘crucial’ moment and keep your finger on the shutter button until the moment has passed.

While on the subject of equipment setup, it’s worth bearing in mind that sports events can last a very long time, so using a tripod or monopod can save your arms some serious aching!

• CAPTURE THE ENERGY OF THE CROWD

A large part of the atmosphere at sporting events is down to the crowd. It’s a great idea to spin around and take shots of the crowd enjoying the event. This can bring those looking through your images a sense that you were able to not only capture the sport being played, but the actual event in all its glory!

You can get some fantastic sports event photos at times when there isn’t even any on-pitch action taking place.

Before the match try to capture the sense of the build up and anticipation. You could capture the team members warming up, officials setting out equipment or the staff giving the pitch a final check.

Congratulations to the man from Jamaica!

With Tailored Image Photography having links with Burnley Football Club who are know in the Premier League, we will be keeping an eye on them throughout the season and seeing how they and the rest of teams fighting for their Premier League survival.

Its been another exciting start to the Premier League, with the Champions Leicester City getting beat, Man City scrapping a win under new manager Pep and then Hull City holding top spot…for Saturday night!

The early kick off saw Hull City beat the champions with many thinking this would be an ideal start from the men from the midlands…but it turned out to be a bit of a nightmare for Claudio Ranieri’s men. Later on Saturday we saw the main bulk of the teams kick off their season with West Brom, Swansea and Man City all winning the maximum 3 points. The remainder fixtures saw teams only manage draws.

Unfortunately our team Burley Football Club had disappointing result at home to Swansea, it was said by many that the team played well and at times were unlucky with some of the dicussions given by the referee being given against them. This was seen as an important fixture especially when they see both Liverpool and Chelsea within their next two games. ‘Burnley 0-1 Swansea City

Leroy Fer scored late on as Swansea City earned a narrow victory over Burnley at Turf Moor.

Fer produced the only goal of the match eight minutes from time in an entertaining contest in Lancashire.

It looked as though it might prove to be a frustrating afternoon for Swansea, who twice came close early on through their summer signing Fernando Llorente, who was denied on both occasions by Tom Heaton.

The visitors also passed up a glorious chance to score through Federico Fernandez, when he blazed over from three yards out early in the second half.

Burnley had their chances when Andre Gray fired over from the right on 32 minutes, and Dean Marney’s deflected strike at the death was superbly saved by Fabianski, but by then Fer had struck the decisive blow after Heaton could only parry Llorente’s goalbound effort following excellent wing play on the left by Wayne Routledge’.

We are all hoping that the signature of Steven Defour and possibly other quality signing can lift this already strong team, ready for these next two games!

Super Sunday saw 3 of the ‘big boys’ play with Liverpool, Arsenal and Man Utd all playing. The early kick off saw new signing Ibrahimovic start, with the out spoken star looking to add another championship to his collection. Yet again for another club he managed a debut goal, helping Utd along to a good win. The later kink off saw the first real ‘big’ battle of the season and it didn’t disappoint, with Liverpool coming out on top.
